Parent Access

All parents of children in grades 3-8 have access to Parent Access, our online program that gives parents the ability to view their children�s grades. If we have a current email address for you then you received an email from Genesis, our database provider with your user name and password. If we do not have a current email address for you please call the main office and speak to Mrs. Doran to update your email address. Her phone number is 732 349 2355 x 2002. Mrs. Doran will then notify the Diocese and Genesis will send you your credentials.

If you FORGET or LOSE your password please call Mrs. Doran in the main office at 732 349 2355 x2002. Please do not call the Diocesan office for this information. The individual school is the only one who knows their parents and the Diocese will not give out that information. This protocol is in place for the protection and privacy of the parents and students.

Donna Urmey, 2012 NCEA Distinguished Teacher of the Year

Donna Urmey, our 8th Grade teacher, is one of twelve teachers from across the United States to receive the 2012 NCEA Distinguished Teacher Award from the Department of Elementary Schools of the National Catholic Educational Association. The recipients of this award, which honors distinguished teaching, come from the twelve geographic regions that compose the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools. Donna Urmey was chosen from a possible pool of over 10,000 Catholic school teachers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Mrs. Urmey�s dedication to Catholic education is evident by her 39 years of service as a Catholic School educator. An alumna of The College of New Jersey, she is NJ state certified K-8 teacher and has achieved the distinction as NJ Highly Qualified in Elementary Education. A colleague states the following, �Donna is able to provide extraordinary spiritual guidance to adolescents. She shared with me a unique way of having middle school students prepare for the Sacrament of Penance. She used the Ten Commandments to help the students examine their conscience and was able to apply these laws on an adolescent level.� A school parent describes her in this way, �Mrs. Urmey freely shares her faith with her students. Her dedication to Catholic education extends far beyond the classroom. It is not uncommon to find Mrs. Urmey cheering for her students at a basketball game, chaperoning a dance or directing the Living Stations or the school play. I am grateful to share with you my belief that Mrs. Urmey epitomizes what it means to be a Distinguished Catholic School Teacher.�

According to Brother Robert Bimonte, FSC, executive director of the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools, all awardees have served for at least ten years in a Catholic elementary school. �Each of these outstanding educators embodies the very best of Catholic education,� Brother Robert said. �Their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to young people are the reasons parents choose Catholic schools.�

Mrs. Urmey will be honored at special ceremonies and a banquet at the annual convention of the National Catholic Educational Association on April 12, 2012 in Boston. The NCEA is the largest, private, professional educational association in the world. Founded in 1904, the association�s membership represents more than 150,000 educators serving 2,000,000 students in Catholic education at all levels.

Congratulations Mrs. Urmey! We are all so proud of you. Our sincere gratitude for bringing honor to our school and parish.

John Hopkins Talented Youth

John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Congratulations! SJGS is proud to announce that this past Wednesday 133 students or 25.5 % of those tested went home with letters stating that they qualified for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) based on the Terra Nova Scores from last March. To qualify for the Talent Search, a student must score in the 95th percentile or higher on a reasoning section of a nationally-named test or have state test results categorized at the highest levels of performance (such as advanced, distinguished, exceeds, or honors). Acceptable types of tests or subtests include those that look for reasoning. In the verbal category subtests include reading, reading composite, vocabulary, context and analogies. Math subtests include math composite, math quantitative and sequencing. Students can also qualify through the total score and in the science and social studies section. CTY is a leading national center for academically advanced K-12 learners. CTY identifies advanced academic talent in young people and then develops that talent so students maintain high academic standards for themselves throughout their school years. Participation in CTY can open up new resources and a new peer network for academically minded young people worldwide.

Scrip SJGS FAMILY CONTRACTUAL SCRIP FUNDRAISING COMMITMENT Each family is required to make purchases amounting to $2,000 in SCRIP (food coupons) and/or Great Lakes, or be assessed a fee of $100.00. Your $2,000 commitment begins accumulating April 1st and runs through March 31st of the school year. If you spend in excess of $2,000 your tuition discount will increase. Scrip Program Information The Scrip Committee processes and/or fills orders every Thursday during the School year. Sending in your order and payment by Wednesday will guarantee we have your order in time to fill it on Thursday morning. You will be given an ID# when you place your first order. There are 2 separate divisions of SCRIP � (1) Grocery and Kohl�s and (2) Great Lakes. Please issue 2 separate checks if ordering from both, made out to SJGS. (1) GROCERY AND KOHLS - these cards are kept in inventory and we sell them every Thursday during the school year.

AVAILABLE STORES: Foodtown, Pathmark, Shop Rite, Stop �n Shop, and Kohl�s. Print the confirmation page and send this with your check on the correct ordering days. Both ways the cards arrive the same way a week later sent home with your child.
