Sister Jean Spena Gymnasium
Old Yankee Stadium was known as the “House that Ruth Built.” The St. Joe’s gymnasium should be known as the “House that Sister Jean Built.” Whether it was in a physical education class, in the halls of the school, on an athletic field, a track or in her most visible role as THE Coach of the Trojans/ Spartans… if you thought of St. Joseph’s Grade School in Toms River, you thought of Sister Jean Spena.
In preparation of this momentous occasion, plans are underway for a grand re-opening / dedication of the gym this fall. Ahead of that though, we are asking for your support. Your contribution of any amount will allow you to feel a sense of pride, ownership and that giving back feeling. Collectively as a community we now have an opportunity to provide a better environment for the students of SJGS.
The stained-glass windows are broken and in disrepair. We need to redo the gym floor and bleachers. the place needs to be painted and freshened up. The PTA has already sponsored the new padding for the walls.
Whether you played for Sr. Jean, had her as a teacher or your children and grandchildren presently attend the school, we can show Sister Jean what her insight and dedication has meant to SJGS and how appreciative we are of the program she started. The Sr. Jean Gymnasium will be so very special.
