Old Yankee Stadium was known as the “House that Ruth Built.”  The St. Joe’s gymnasium should be known as the “House that Sister Jean Built.”  Whether it was in a physical education class, in the halls of the school, on an athletic field, a track or in her most visible role as The Coach of the Trojans/ Spartans… when you think about St. Joseph’s Grade School athletics, you think of Sister Jean Spena.

In the fall of 2018, the SJGS community dedicated our school gymnasium to the person who dreamed of it, planned it and brought it to fruition,  Sr. Jean Spena .  Many benefactors supported the original remodeling project undertaken in preparation of the October  2018 dedication.  Whether you played for Sr. Jean, had her as a teacher or your children and grandchildren presently attend the school, you  can show Sister Jean what her insight and dedication has meant to SJGS and how appreciative you are of the program she started by donating to keep the gym and the athletic program going strong.
The  Sr. Jean Gymnasium  is a very special place named for a very special lady.
